Simple, fair terms for using haru. We believe in keeping things straightforward.

The Basics

What you can do

  • Write up to 3 diary entries per day
  • Chat with AI about your thoughts
  • Share your entries with AI for conversation
  • Cancel your subscription anytime

What you can't do

  • Share accounts with others
  • Use the service illegally
  • Try to hack or abuse the system
  • Resell or redistribute the service

Using haru

Your Account

You're responsible for keeping your account secure and for all activities under your account. Please use a strong password and don't share your login credentials.

Service Availability

We designed haru for high availability, but sometimes we need to perform maintenance or updates. We'll give you advance notice whenever possible.

Intended Use

haru is designed for personal diary writing and self-reflection. While our AI can provide thoughtful responses, it's not a replacement for professional mental health care.

Your Content & Data

Your diary entries belong to you

You own all the content you create in haru. We never claim ownership of your diary entries, thoughts, or personal reflections. You can delete your content anytime.

Content Guidelines

Please keep your diary entries legal and don't use haru to plan or coordinate illegal activities. While your entries are private, this helps us maintain a safe service for everyone.

Backups & Sync

We automatically back up your encrypted diary entries to provide sync across devices and prevent data loss. You can turn off sync in your settings if you prefer local-only storage.

Payments & Subscriptions

Subscription Plans

haru offers monthly and annual subscription plans. All plans include up to 3 daily entries and AI conversations. You can change or cancel your plan anytime.

Billing & Refunds

Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled. We offer 14-day free trials for new users. Refunds are available within 14 days of purchase if you're not satisfied.

Cancellation

Cancel anytime from your account settings. You'll keep access until your current billing period ends. Your data remains accessible for 90 days after cancellation.

AI Features & Privacy

AI Conversations

Our AI is designed to provide conversational feedback and writing prompts. It's trained to be helpful, harmless, and honest, but may occasionally provide inaccurate information. Always use your best judgment.

AI Limitations & Accuracy

haru's AI responses are generated by machine learning and may not always be accurate, appropriate, or suitable for your situation. The AI does not have real emotions or consciousness. You acknowledge that AI-generated content may contain errors, and you should not rely solely on AI responses for important decisions.

AI Content Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, haru and its operators shall not be liable for any damages arising from or related to AI-generated responses, suggestions, or content. However, this limitation of liability shall not apply in cases of willful misconduct or gross negligence by haru. If you encounter inappropriate, harmful, or concerning AI responses, please report them to support@polaris-lab.net immediately. We continuously work to improve AI safety.

Privacy Protection

Your conversations with AI are encrypted in transit. When you use AI features, your diary content is processed by third-party AI service providers under our instructions. These providers process data solely to deliver the requested functionality. You must explicitly choose to share your entries with AI features each time.

Important Mental Health Disclaimers

THIS IS NOT THERAPY

haru is NOT a substitute for professional mental health care, therapy, counseling, or medical treatment. Our AI cannot diagnose, treat, or prevent any mental health condition. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, thoughts of self-harm, or serious emotional distress, please seek immediate professional help.

haru's AI provides reflective dialogue, not professional medical or psychological advice. Always consult qualified healthcare professionals for diagnosis, treatment, or medical guidance. Never disregard professional medical advice because of something haru's AI has said.

Acceptable Use

Prohibited Activities

Using haru for illegal activities or planning harmful actions
Attempting to hack, reverse engineer, or compromise the service
Sharing your account or reselling access to the service
Using automated tools to spam or abuse the AI features

Service Changes & Termination

Updates & Changes

We regularly improve haru with new features and updates. We'll notify you of significant changes that affect these terms or your experience.

Service Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. If we discontinue the service, we'll give you 60 days notice to access your data.

Limitation of Liability

We provide haru "as is" and do our best to keep it running smoothly. However, we can't guarantee the service will always be available or error-free.

Our liability is limited to the amount you've paid for the service in the past 12 months. We're not liable for indirect damages or data loss, though we work hard to prevent these issues.

This limitation of liability does not affect any rights that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable consumer protection laws.

Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any legal action or proceeding related to these terms shall be brought exclusively in the Tokyo District Court, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts. This does not affect any mandatory consumer protection rights under the laws of your country of residence. We'll try to resolve any disputes amicably before pursuing legal action.

Age Requirement

You must meet the minimum age required under the laws of your jurisdiction (and at least 18 years old) to use haru. We do not knowingly collect personal information from users below this age requirement. If we discover that a user below the required age has provided us with personal information, we will delete it immediately.

Terms Updates

We may update these terms occasionally to reflect service changes or legal requirements. We'll notify you via email and app notification at least 30 days before major changes take effect. Your continued use of haru means you accept the updated terms.
